Or deficiency of Calcium in body due to feeding large litters.
Did You had it with Your females, what do You do to prevent it?
We just had it with our Ella, and she only have 5 puppies, as Viola had last year 7 puppies and no sign of any problem with calcium disorder.
We are giving them same food (royal canine starter), same mineral-vitamin complex as addition to food.

We have had this with a female with 2 puppies. The female's are not able to make there own or enough calcium. Our vets advice is to take the puppies away and not go back to mother if old enough to be away from her.We give our pregnant girls a calcium +vit D supplement. We give this a week befor she has puppies. We also give Royal Canin H42 from day 1 of heat up 6 weeks after mating then we give royal canin starter This problem can happen befor they have the puppies.

I agree with such opinion that Eclampsy is metabolic problem of this female and it doesnt depend how much calcium we give to the female. She simply has bad calcium metabilism and cant use it from food. Also the same female may have eclampsy during one pregnancy/whelping/milking and be absolutely health during another pregnancy/whelping/milking. Usually any metabolic problems have hereditary basic, so I try not to breed females who have any problems with health. Usual it is hard to prevent, because it is many causions to begin eclampsy, also there are some dogs with Ca-depends fits even not females. Basical idea is eliminate such animals from breeding + keep dogs in good conditions etc from theirs puppyhood, but who may be sure how never meet this problem...

Marika, I totally agree with You. But You are not certain which female will have eclampsy and which isn't, if she is firstborn.
But it's nor only due to a calcium disorder. I believe it have some connection with vitamin D deficient. As vitamin D is not a real vitamin, because our boy synthesize it by help from the sun, it also help with membrane transport of the calcium. So I believe that females that have winter litters or have puppies in the house will be more likely to get this condition.

Yes, phosphorus it's important for normal function membrane transport.
We have sad news. Yesterday Ella again had an attack of eclampsy. Despite of the fact that she had it last week, that she is totally separated from puppies and that we take good care considering her food additions.

calpus Oh, I am sorry for your girl... Yes, it is hard to say which female and when will have or will not have the fit. Of course, Ca metabolism cant be taken as only Ca-metabolism, of course, it is working is connection with many other systems and component unit, so Eclampsy is a sign that metabolism of this dog doesnt OK. It is what i wanted to say.

First time it happened we made biochemical analysis of the blood, and all the micro elements were OK, except Ca. So she had therapy of glukosalina + Ca, and after therapy she felt OK.
Now, tomorrow we are going again to vet to see what is now happening with biochemistry in blood, I hope that results will show us what happened.
I have read several articles about eclampsy and in every one of them they say that there is no certain way to prevent this disorder, so we have decide not to breed Ella any more. I like my girl so much that I don't want to risk this condition any more. As we are fortunate to be at home this time, I don't want to even imagine what could happened if we weren't here.

She is better, thank You. We are going today in the afternoon to vet. We gave her Calcium solution and she revitalized and feels OK. Anyway, now is OK, and we are going to check just in case, so that I can sleep peacefully.
Regards Amalka
